January and the future

I have just realised I missed out on getting the new Dark Angels Limited Edition Codex, at least its no longer available for order on GW's site. If these were like the Chaos Space Marine Limited Editions then there were 1000 of them. At a RRP of £55 I felt these were very highly priced considering that IA books are generally <£45, the "limited edition" tag really seems to command massive prices although it remains to be seen if these editions retain their value or if they find themselves devaluing like so many "limited eds".

Considering that they released Chaos Space Marines and now Dark Angels with these Limited Ed codices, it would be sensible to assume that they intend to do this will all future codex releases. If they update all 14 4th and 5th edition codices with a 6th ed version that's £770 total plus the £110 for the 2 currently released.

On a personal note, two books I've been excited about for a long time arrived, late Christmas presents the beautiful The Emperor's Might art book, 2nd in John Blanche's latest series of art books. perfect for those who like pretty pictures and aren't that fond of words

Secondly the Imperial Infantryman's Handbook which is apparently now sold out on the BL site. This is an amalgamation of the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer (2003) and the The Imperial Munitorum Manual (2007).

Reviews may well be coming up.

Upcoming releases for January (after 7/1/12)

 Black Library 40k
Mitchell, Sandy - The Greater Good
The 9th Commissar Cain novel in hardback

Mitchell, Sandy - The last Ditch
The 8th Commissar Cain novel out in softback

Black Library WHFB
Reynolds, Josh - Gortrek & Felix: Road of Skulls
A G&F novel not written by Bill King...
King, William - Gotrek & Felix: The First Omnibus
King, William - Gotrek & Felix: The Second Omnibus
defiantly written by Bill King, a reissue of the first three and the 2nd three G&F novels

Slim pickings for the rest of January both 40k and WHFB with just two new novels, there have been a few released already though.

Games Workshop
Rumours are a bit uncertain post Dark Angels release. It is possible that Chaos Daemons, scheduled for the next release, may not be getting a printed codex, just a White Dwarf update style one. Just going to have to wait and see for the moment.

Forge World upcoming book releases

Currently FW are working on two new books, after the release of the mouthful that is Imperial Armour Volume 1 - Second Edition: Imperial Guard:
Imperial Armour 12 - Fall of Orpheus
 - Covers the Necron Invasion of an entire Imperial Sector
 - Features - Necrons, Minotaurs and Death Corps of Krieg

The Horus Heresy Book 2: Massacre
 - Covers the first part of the Istvaan V massacre
 - Includes 4 Legions: Salamanders, Iron Hands, Night Lords and Word Bearers plus new vehicles and Mecanicum forces

As with all FW book releases, I'm stoked for these two, although I feel that the use of the Death Corps in IA12 is a bit of a wash out - with so many Imperial Guard home worlds to choose from it seems that they have put the models they have for sale 1st. I would love to see some love for IG regiments from other homeworlds.

As for release dates for these two, IA12 should be hitting us soon, as Alan Bligh stated he was finishing it up at Games day UK 2012 back in September, in fact he stated that it would have been done and dusted earlier if it wasn't for the Horus Heresy books. HH2:Massacre may be a while coming, apparently book 1 took a year to complete so we may bee looking at a release around September 2013 for the next one.

And finally... released over the Christmas holidays the "teaser trailer" for a new book, quite obviously about Mephiston. Hoping that this is going to be the next limited edition novella from Black Library. No word yet on a release date, but there was mention of BL doing four Ltd Ed Novellas this year. More opportunities to drop £30 on a book!
